The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:2

Our adversary shows us all kinds of imaginary rocks to depend on. But there is only one true rock, Jesus Christ who made them all. He is the rock that never crumbles or disintegrates. He is the only true fortress that cannot be penetrated. He is the one who daily saves and delivers us from our sins and failures. Jesus is our shield, who protects us in times of trouble from the assaults of the enemy and the oppression of our failures.

The horn is an ancient symbol, which indicates the presence of power and plenty. It is the horn that is often used in battle to summon forces and to indicate victory in battle. Our God is a God who never has lost a battle.

This is a sure thing because God does not have any losses in His repertoire. He even uses our failures in His seeming defeat on the cross to annihilate His enemy for all time. You see, God provides many weapons for us in our struggle against fear and sin. We need only to remember God’s promises to us and take up His Word to fight our battle.
