May He give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed. Psalm 20:4

We are afraid because we feel that the desires of our heart will not be met in life. Many of our lives are filled with small disappointments that create more fear and doubt in us. The Psalmist declares what he really needs, which is that God will give him the desire of his heart. This verse is a blessing to all who heed its wisdom. When the desires of our hearts are filled, there is little or no room for fear and there is much more room for love.

Love is the opposite of fear and this is God’s antidote for the darkness of anxiety and fear. When we love God with our whole heart, He will create His desires in our heart. It is in this way that all our plans can succeed. When we obey the Lord, we approach understanding His greatness by becoming more like Him. When we seek His greatness and His Kingdom first, He will make our plans to succeed.
