Deliver my life from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs. Psalm 22:20

The sword was a greatly feared weapon in ancient times. It had the power of life and death in the use of it. The sword was used for defensive and offensive purposes. In today’s time, the evil one uses a different kind of sword against us.

It is a sword of lies and accusations which wound our heart and our spirit so that we cannot function. We must guard all the thoughts that come into our heads so that they do not turn into swords and come against us to wound and destroy us. Instead, we should use the Word of God as our sword to defend ourselves against the lies and accusations of the enemy.

The Word of God will deliver us because it comes from the mouth of God Himself. With His mouth, God spoke the universe into being. With our mouths, we speak His Word to defend ourselves. The power of the dogs is an ancient scriptural reference to uncontrolled and vicious destruction and accusation from evil and wicked puppets of the evil one. Think of being attacked by a pack of wolves and you will get the idea of how our adversary wants to destroy us. David remembered his deliverer who consistently rescued him from a wicked and terrible fate.
