Don’t be afraid,” the prophet Elisha answered, “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes so he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:16-17

There is an old saying that says, “God and I are a majority.” Fear likes to cover our eyes and our hearts so that we do not see the reality of the situation. Fear lives in the land of false expectations and vain imaginations. Fear paralyzes our hearts and makes us feel numb, but our God wants our hearts to be strong and soft towards Him.

When God is there, He automatically becomes the majority in the situation. The closer God comes to us, the more this becomes true. What we should long to do is to see with the eyes of our heart and not just the eyes of our mind. When we see with the eyes of our heart, we can share the positive affections of God that produce victory, courage and strength. At first, Elisha’s servant was not looking with the eyes of his heart, but with the eyes of his mind and this resulted in fear. Then, God opened the eyes of his heart and he beheld the strength and victory of God.
