I love the house where you live, O Lord, the place where Your glory dwells. Psalm 26:8

This verse raises the question of where our affections lie. The evil one attacks the affections of our heart to produce fear. The Lord moves the affections of our heart to produce love. What we hold dear is fertile ground for the growth of our affections or the affairs of our heart. Fear and love both live in the realm of strong emotions. The difference is that fear produces negative consequences in our lives and love produces life and positive consequences. We choose where we will base the center of our life. Fear moves us toward death and the evil one and love moves us toward the Light of life, who is Jesus.

Whatever we gaze upon, we will move towards. That is why this scripture encourages us to look for the things of heaven and the Lord’s glory. Isn’t it an interesting phenomenon that what we gaze upon, we will find? For instance, after buying a new red car, we will notice all the red cars on the road.

The Lord is asking us, what do you choose to capture your affections, the things of earth or the things of heaven? What motivates and drives you towards the goal, the things of the earth or the things of heaven?
