Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Psalm 27:14
This verse is a solid instruction in our battle against fear. Satan’s tactics are to first lie to us and then isolate us so that fear can attack and then destroy our hearts and our lives. When you are in a battle, it would not be very wise to run ahead of the general to go to the front lines. This is precisely what fear wants to do in drawing us into the battle all by ourselves. It is there that fear realizes that it can easily overwhelm us and destroy us. In doing so, it can also be more easily passed down to other family members because its behaviors are strongly rooted in the family fabric of traditions.
Instead of charging into the battle alone, the Lord gives us His strategy, which is to wait first for Him. It is here that we often make our biggest mistake and do not wait for the Lord when the fight is upon us. Waiting for the Lord also means waiting for His presence and the reassurance that we find in His Word. It is difficult to do battle and meditate on the Word of God at the same time. So, God tells us to stop, gather strength from God’s Word and have courage and instruction placed in our hearts. It is when we wait for God’s instruction and Word that we can take heart and win the battles that we face. Have you won many battles with an empty heart?
