Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!
Psalm 31:24 ESV

This scripture is good for us because it gives us two productive ways to reduce fear. It says that we become strong by seizing courage, which comes by asking and praying for it. The second way to receive courage is to wait on the Lord. David strengthened himself by remembering the promises of the Lord and past victories.

Waiting for the Lord is a skill that we develop. We can start by asking for courage in small things and working up to larger issues. This is hard to do in our instant society where we want everything now. However, fear can come quickly but courage does not unless we cultivate it regularly.
