Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God. Psalm 42:11

There are many times in life when we need an attitude check. This is what the Psalmist seems to be doing here. His introspection points the way back to God. Circumstances and personal pain and disappointment can paint us a bleak picture of our lives. Our God is always on the sunny side because He is the light of the world in the universe. He is the inventor of hope and He sent help to mankind through the person of Jesus Christ, His Son. Hope is always better than disappointment. Hope is the superior compass to find our personal destiny.

The discovery of God’s love and hope stirs up worship and praise in the heart of man. Man realizes that vindication and rescue cannot come from himself, but it must come from God.
