Rise up and help us; redeem us because of Your unfailing love. Psalm 44:26

Have you ever been bound by fear and anxiety and badly wanted someone to help you? This is the condition of the author of this verse. The Psalmist is saying, in an ancient way, don’t just stand there, do something! In the Bible, whenever God rises, His enemies are scattered.
They had no choice but to flee from the presence of Almighty God. It would be wonderful if God would always come and help us like our instant breakfast! In His perfect plan for us, He chooses to wait and to respond, which causes our relationship to deepen and to mature us.
Redeem us means to save or rescue us. Because of our frail human condition, we need God’s constant acts of redemption of His unfailing love. His unfailing love for us never grows tired and is consistently perfect in His actions and purposes. It produces tender love for God in our hearts, minds and spirits. This love strengthens us because we have memories of His consistent and brilliant care for us. We often long for a human friend to have these characteristics; but, fortunately, our great and magnificent Savior Jesus Christ more than fills the bill.
