God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

We don’t like to admit it, but we make many things our refuge and strength over God. As a matter of fact, God is most often our final and most desperate choice. This is because of our intense desire to make our flesh our god rather than Almighty God.

We can touch and manipulate worldly things that are our refuge and strength like wealth, reputation and weapons. These are instruments that make us think that we can control and shape our own destiny.

God becomes our refuge and strength through the act of surrender. In this surrender, we find that He becomes our refuge. God proves to us that He is capable of being our defense in every situation. The more we surrender, we will find God to be dependable and faithful in keeping His promises to us. God is present with us in each circumstance and has a solution for every trouble that we face.
