Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in You my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of Your wings until the disaster has passed. Psalm 57:1
Mercy is a great thing in life, but it is not always automatic. That is why David the Psalmist calls out to God twice for His mercy and kindness towards David. Mercy by its definition is not earned but it is a gift of God to one who cries out to God desperately. Mercy is not something we can put in our bank account, but it comes out of God’s gracious and kind heart.

When disaster comes, only fools refuse to take refuge in God; or even worse, do not even know to ask for it. As a mother shields her baby in her arms when disaster strikes, so God covers us with the hand of His presence. As surely as we live, disasters will come upon us in many ways; so, it is good to know that God offers refuge to those who know His voice and call upon His help.
