For you have heard my vows, O God; you have given me the heritage of those who fear Your name. Psalm 61:5

Vows are the archaic expression of promises, oaths, pleas and cries. All these have come in abundance from humanity. We are motivated by what we remember. We can choose to remember our failures and have them ever before us or we can recount the many deeds of the Lord’s goodness for those who fear the Lord. We all must choose what we will remember.

As we follow the Lord, we acquire a godly heritage that fosters an awe of God sometimes known as the fear of God. This is the good kind of fear of God that has a healthy respect for His awesome power and His endless wisdom. The more we can discover this godly heritage, the bolder we will become. When God shows who He really is, fear must flee in our lives.
