Help us, O God our Savior, for the glory of Your name; deliver us and forgive us our sins for your name’s sake. Psalm 79:9

God continually both delivered and forgave His children in their long history together. He knew that they would need deliverance and forgiveness to have a relationship with Him that God so desired. This patience with His people was to the glory and praise of God’s attributes and character.

The author of this psalm wanted to make a declaration about God’s willingness to deliver us when we cry out for help. God did these things because He could not be untrue to His nature to deliver and forgive if His people were truly repentant.

In this way, God reaffirmed His namesake again and again through history and through personal experience. We also need to study the Scriptures to remember His many acts of faithfulness towards us and apply this to our everyday lives.
