For the Lord satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. Psalm 107:9

Water and food are the two elements that man needs to live. Despite this, men search for their own substitutes. They try to exist without the water of God’s Word to refresh, cleanse and heal them. They ignore the precious gift that God gave them in His priceless Word to give them life, substance and satisfaction. The world gives us a steady diet of junk food, which will lead to illness and death. Junk food does not have the properties that will sustain life over the long run. They may fill our stomachs, but they do not feed our souls.

God gives us what we need to feed our soul. His gifts provide the substance to live as our body intended and satisfies us with peace and a sense of His deep love for us. Men wander to and fro, seeking peace and love and wanting to fill their souls with anything that is readily available from the world.

This is like stuffing your heart with empty trash that provides nothing but burdens to our existence. We end up spending more time getting rid of our trash than seeking the abundant life that we can find in God’s Word and Presence. We gather the trash and it becomes a burden. Then we must get rid of the trash. God patiently waits for us to discover that His Word and ways are what gives us satisfaction. One of the greatest blessings of life is to find that the Word brings us into the Presence of God.
