In my anguish I cried to the Lord, and he answered by setting me free. The Lord is with me, I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? Psalm 118:5-6
This is a great verse that shows us how fear produces anguish and bondage. God’s love, in contrast, gives us confidence and freedom. When we are afraid, we think that we are trying to protect ourselves. This actually leads us into more bondage.
God’s love is the real medicine for anguish in our lives. It is only in God’s love that we experience the joys of being free. In crying out to God, we seek His love. By embracing fear, we begin to fashion our own chains. Our cries to God will take us to the dance of freedom.
