I shall not die but I shall live and recount the deeds of the Lord. Psalm 118:17

This verse was thought to be Martin Luther’s motto for his life. In many ways, David’s life was like Martin Luther because both were constantly pursued by their enemies who wanted to kill or destroy them.
This verse is an affirmation of faith and trust in God. Both men have realized that their strength and their refuge came from the Lord and not from friends or political allies. Times were very uncertain and full of trouble for them as it is for us now.
Recounting the deeds of the Lord is a way of affirming our desire to survive and prosper when we are challenged and threatened. For all of us, this can occur at any time or almost in any way. We need to be ready for such challenges and threats to our present and our future. The Lord is our ever-present help in trouble. If we develop a good relationship with Him, it will be easier to access His help and deliverance that He has promised to offer us. Much of the success of our life is also based on the intimacy of our relationship with God.
