If Your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.
Psalm 119:92

This is what I would call a walking Psalm, which means that the Psalm can only be experienced after prayer, reflection and experiencing God’s love. Today when we hear the word law, we sort of cringe in fear. God’s laws are given to us for our own benefit to keep us out of trouble.
When we have no trouble, we are freer to experience delight. God’s laws lead us to delights that we cannot possibly experience with the world’s pleasures. The two seem to be in an inevitable conflict, and we must choose which delight we will pursue.
Affliction will walk close to us if we pursue our own fleshly desires and earthly pursuits. They may lead us into a whole nest of afflictions, which would cause us to perish as the writer indicates. This affliction could result in our physical death as well as our spiritual death. Our spiritual death is an everlasting sentence into hell for choosing sin, ignoring Gods laws and rebellion against God. His laws actually lead us into a place of pleasure and delight where we can experience peace, joy, love and satisfaction.
