Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me.
Psalm 119:98
This verse reveals the maturity and insight of the Psalmist. It implies that God’s wisdom stands the test of all time and circumstance. We become discouraged when evil wins for a short season. Our enemy lies to us and tells us that we were a fool to trust in God Himself. It is easy to feel this way when we are in the middle of failure, shame and self-condemnation. We may feel that there is no way out of the mistakes that we have made.

Fear wants us to be tied to our temporary emotions and the immediate satisfaction of our pleasures. Our humanity dictates that this changes constantly and proves to be very frustrating. We may want one thing today and another thing tomorrow.
Wisdom does not always quickly reveal itself, but the true test of wisdom comes over time. The Psalmist shows the understanding in this verse that God’s wisdom provides rewards that are infinitely more significant and lasting than the quick victory of evil.
