I lift my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2
This is excellent advice for those who are wrestling with fear and trouble. We have a tendency as humans to be paralyzed and preoccupied by our present circumstances. This inhibits our ability to think clearly about different options which could rescue us. Fear and trouble numbs the mind and dulls our senses. Stumbling around is not the best way to escape our difficulties.
Our Creator, in His great mercy, has revealed His solutions and favor towards us. The phrase, I lift my eyes to the hills also means I lift my heart upward to the hills toward the place of heaven where we have been taught that God resides. It is God’s desire that we look to Him for help in all our difficult situations. This is because He is the best source of a life-saving answer to our problems and fears. God is extremely confident in all that He does because He is all powerful and all knowing. What better place could there be to find the answer that we so need?
