My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. Psalm 130:6

My soul is the sum of my human desires. They come and go and are mostly unfulfilled. In fact, human desires are never satisfied. They just want more and more of what they don’t have. The people in the world often think more about what they don’t have. The people of the world are not thankful for the most part. They are hungry and unsatisfied, brooding and plotting to get more of what is lacking.

In contrast, the watchmen of the Lord desire His coming to them more than anything else. They are longing and aching for the presence of their Savior to deliver them from fear and trouble. This is quite remarkable since our own human desires are so powerful within us. This is another example of the battle between the soul and the spirit that constantly wages a war within us.

The spirit is always superior to the soul because the Spirit of God lives inside us. It is the Holy Spirit that wants to bring us to a union and intimacy with the Lord.
