The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but He frustrates the ways of the wicked. Psalm 146:9

We are in a society that forgets the foreigner and the fatherless. Many of us are kept mostly consumed with the needs of the endlessly hungry me inside of us. We tend to care for those who will be of benefit to us in the future.
There is an increasing emphasis in our culture to value that which is useful and to scorn that which seems to be useless. In other words, if you can do something for me, then I will do something for you.
Our Lord has the heart of an eternally loving Father, who always does good to His family and to those He loves. He has shown a tendency to especially care for those who cannot give back or care for themselves. The Lord’s great heart of love wants even the powerless to grow and prosper even in the most barren environment. He delights in doing amazing things to make this happen that defy human explanation or reason. The Lord hates the ways of the wicked because they demean and rob the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow. The Lord is the glorious protector and defender of these forgotten ones.
