The fear of the Lord adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short. Proverbs 10:27

We are like farmers in the field; we can cast our seeds in the field of wickedness or the field of righteousness. When we cast our seeds in the field of righteousness, the favor of the Lord will come upon us as a crop bears good fruit. Part of this favor is that our life is extended to produce more good fruit for others. The favor of the Lord brings all that we need to prosper because the righteous soil is like the good soil that can produce many years of good fruit.

The soil of wickedness produces weeds, which will be eliminated because they are of no use in the long term. No one I know wants a yard of weeds in front of his house. The house owner will eliminate the weeds and plant the good seed of the grass he desires to grow. Just like sin, the weeds multiply and choke out the good harvest. Just like the weeds, if the wicked do not repent their lives will be cut short.
