The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.
Proverbs 18:10

Advertising makes sure to remind us that a name and a reputation are always tied together. This is also true of our name in life. We could amass great riches but have a poor and worthless reputation that is not trusted or admired. Many products and political candidates are sold to us based on their name. In our society, a name is another word to describe the reputation that we will carry to others. A good reputation is worth more than tons of gold, but it can easily be destroyed by false accusation and rumor. A good reputation is built by consistent and repeated acts of goodness to others. This goodness is also found in the attributes of God towards us.

A strong tower is a safe place where we can gain perspective on our situation. Sometimes we need a different view when we are wrestling with fear, doubt and anxiety. We need a place to collect our thoughts and sort out those that got us there in the first place. Our God does better than that. He gives us a refuge to sort out our thoughts and rearrange our priorities.

Our Lord will give us His thoughts on the matter because our thoughts often do not work to produce the desired result. Our God gives a solution to those who are righteous and humbly seeking His face.
