Do not say, “I will pay you back for this wrong!” Wait for the Lord and He will deliver you. Proverbs 20:22
Vengeance works in the shadows of every human heart. This is partially because injustice is so prevalent in almost every life. The Lord does not like vengeance because we take control of the situation or injustice. We say to the Lord, in this case, that we know better how to right the wrong than He does. This attitude is grossly incorrect and is likely to bring about disastrous consequences. We are assuming that we have the best view of every situation so that we can repay every injustice with fairness and accuracy. Our emotions demand that there is a solution that is fair and just. When we want to pay others back, love is not our motive.
We frail human beings do not have the perspective to make those decisions accurately. Since the Lord deals with us in perfect love, He has a perfect perspective to repay every wrong correctly. Every response causes a chain reaction that has an untold number of consequences through time. God is the only one who can determine the correct response to injustice and turn it around for each person.
