In repentance and rest is your salvation; in quietness and trust is your strength. Isaiah 30:15b
Sin gives pleasure for a short time, but grants pain a lot longer. Due to our sinful habits, we need rest and salvation. We have used many other forms of relief besides repentance. Most of these other forms mask our pain but do not change the human heart. It is repentance or the turning away from sin and confessing our sin, that changes the human heart.
This repentance gives us rest and salvation, which results in quietness and trust in our hearts. Much of our attempts to heal heart pain are not what the Lord prescribes for us. We are too busy to be quiet and too unbelieving to trust. We must address the issues of busyness and unbelief to deal more effectively with the pain in our hearts. We cannot heal our hearts by running away, but we can heal our hearts by running towards God and asking Him to heal us of our mistakes and our sin. When our heart stops hurting and we are peaceful, we find a much deeper ability to be strong in facing the issues in our life. Then our strength is fully established in the Lord.
