August 4

When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
Isaiah 43:3
We may be intimidated by the destroyer, but we are quite afraid of the devourer. The fire and the flames are symbols of the devourer because it destroys everything in its path. The devourer, or the flames of life, threaten to totally consume our dreams, ambitions and plans both now and in the future. To be devoured is to be consumed completely and to be left in ashes or some other form of nonexistence.
The desire of God is that we never be devoured or consumed by the flames or fires of life. God has offered us many kinds of protection which He has created for us. The main defense against the enemy is the Word of God, which is literally the words of God upon which everything was build and created. The Word of God is the foundation of the universe and trustworthy evidence of our salvation if we choose to live by God’s words.
The community of believers is another shield. They help defend us when the evil one sends his fiery darts of accusation and worthlessness into our lives by praying to Father God for protection and direction. This intimacy individually and corporately strengthens our ability to walk through the fires of life.
