See I have engraved you on the palms of My hands; your walls are ever before Me.
Isaiah 49:16

We often like to engrave a name or a message so they will not be forgotten. This is because we treasure and cherish the memory or the person that somehow profoundly affected us. It is our way of remembering something that we do not want to let go of and can remember forever. We also hope this will be remembered by succeeding generations. Engraving makes note of accomplishments, beauty or great importance.

These words in the previous paragraph are a mere shadow of how God cherishes, values and treasures our lives and our impact on His kingdom. We are so important to God, that He has engraved our names on the palms of His hands to not be forgotten forever. It is great to know that the only Eternal and Omnipotent God of the Universe loves and feels this way about us every second, minute and day of our lives. This is surely something to rejoice about. We cannot fear and rejoice at the same time.
