All your sons will be taught by the Lord, and great will be your children’s peace.
Isaiah 54:13

Tradition, knowledge and understanding was passed down the Hebrew culture mainly through the men. Since books were rare and communication was more difficult, stories and other insights were taught by word of mouth. They were repeated through each generation. The acts and mercies of the Lord and the sins of men were discussed again and again. Hopefully, the listener could learn and profit from each. They memorized the Torah or the Word of God as they knew it to make correct decisions about their lives and future. The history of the Torah provided stability to their culture.

When the sons of the Israelites were open to being taught by the Lord, they profited greatly. They avoided the guilt and foolishness of sin and poor judgment, which brought them great peace. When we allow the Lord to teach us, it is always the best because our God is the master teacher, who knows the hearts of men. There was no one who knows the created better than the Creator God. Since obeying God brings peace, they were much more able to bring peace to others.
