Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. Isaiah 55:6
Finding the Lord comes after we seek the Lord and then call upon His name. It is much harder to call anyone if we have no sense of where they are. A person can call someone without having an intimate relationship with him. Seeking the Lord implies that there is at least some type of intimacy with Him. Seeking Him means that we consider Him worth finding and not just calling.
This verse also talks about calling on the Lord being more than a one-time event. Seeking God helps us to develop a deeper relationship with Him that is based on His character and nature. We seek the Lord by telling Him that we want to be near Him. This means that we want to know His thoughts, ideas and ways. Seeking the Lord also shows that we desire to know the secrets of His heart and His plans for us more than anything else. We want to be His hands and feet to a dying and confused world. In seeking the Lord, we can find and show His loving heart to a cruel world full of deception and hatred.
