The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor, He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners. Isaiah 61:1

In our quieter moments, we may pause and ponder what our inheritance would be from our father and family. Our Heavenly Father leaves no doubt of His intentions about the inheritance that He wants to give us. Father God gives us gifts and tasks to increase the Kingdom of God. Our Father first calls us into His family through salvation in Jesus Christ, and then gives us gifts to bring many others into His family and His Kingdom.

Our Father God has enabled us to bring the good news of His love and salvation to a wounded and broken world. This includes healing our broken hearts, declaring the goodness of His grace and mercy, and giving us the keys to help free captives from their personal prisons. No loving father would enjoy seeing his children suffering in prison. This verse is another declaration of the great mercy and tenderness of God towards our grief, pain and suffering.
