He has showed you O man what is good and what the Lord requires of you. To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

Let us suppose that we just won our dream job. We would want an accurate blueprint to accomplish our task. God has already won our dream job for us by dying on the cross for our sins. Our true dream job is to participate in heaven with Him as part of God’s forever family.

God’s blueprint for this job is simple to understand but more difficult to live out. When we act justly, we make justice our prime objective rather than our selfish desires. When we know God more intimately, we will also learn to love mercy because He is full of mercy for us. We live in a broken world cluttered with other people’s mistakes and sins. This gives us many opportunities to express the virtue of mercy to our fellow man. We must also learn to be merciful towards ourselves to receive the full benefits of God’s unfailing love towards us. The humble man is the one who receives the most mercy because he realizes his great need for God’s forgiveness and acceptance. These three virtues are the critical components of a man after God’s own heart.
