Now I will break their yoke from your neck and tear your shackles away. Nahum 1:13

In the Bible, the yoke refers to an action of oppression, subjection, or servitude. The yokes and shackles on the people often occur because of their rebellion against God and the rejection of His Word. God allows these circumstances to call His people back to Himself, so that He can draw them closer to Him

There are many forms of yokes and shackles. This may refer to the yoke of unbelief, fear, unforgiveness or another yoke of suppression by a conquering people. All this sin implies a form of slavery to the oppressors or to the oppression. We must always be careful to check our attitudes towards others and to the Lord to avoid these yokes and shackles.

It is not God’s desire to have us live under any yoke or shackle. It is the love of God that has the power to break shackles and yokes of all kinds. God’s love is constantly pouring over us like a mighty waterfall. Part of our maturation process, as the people of God, is to learn to receive His care and blessing daily. God is good all the time and will respond to our cries for help in His perfect timing for a solution to our oppression.
