Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

Even our friends leave us with many well-intentioned gifts that are not useful. When Jesus gives us a gift, it has both power and purpose. This is because our Savior knows us so well and gives us amazing gifts that are just what we need in a chaotic and fearful world. The world gives gifts out of obligation or manipulation because they want something in return.

Jesus knows that the tactics of the enemy are fear and intimidation. The antidote is having the peace of Christ rule in our hearts. We will not be distressed and unsettled when Christ’s peace controls our emotions. Fear does not reign in a heart that is fully occupied by the Word of God and the peace of Christ. We avoid the dark shadows of trouble when we live in the light of God’s love and peace.
