No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. I Corinthians 10:13

At times, we are attacked by an avalanche of temptation that attempts to overwhelm our coping mechanisms. It seems like our only reasonable response is to give in to the sin or our weakness. We are tempted to give up and give in to this temptation. We can think of only the benefit but not the cost. Afterwards, we are left with only shame and regret for our thoughts and actions.

Father God has told us that when we get into this kind of temptation which overwhelms our defenses, we can flee to God who will defend us and provide a way out. This is a skill which we must learn in order to grow and prosper in holiness. Our holiness is like a light, which others need in the darkness of their lives. God’s way out puts our light on a lampstand so that others can see and believe that God will also help them in their similar temptations.
