The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
Psalm 9:9

When we feel burdened and oppressed, we especially long for a place of rest, a stronghold of safety where we can relax and enjoy our lives. We want freedom from our trouble, especially when there is no solution in sight.

But our Lord is the solution for every situation and every oppression. He is a stronghold of freedom and safety for us. Many times, before we are free physically, we must become free in our minds. This occurs when we learn to think thoughts of freedom by holding on to God’s promises in times of trouble.

Our flesh likes to dwell on the oppressive circumstances, which causes us to feel weak and afraid. When we think of the Lord’s great love for us, we enter His stronghold of safety and peace, even in times of trouble. Freedom in our thoughts will eventually show us a way to be free in our physical circumstances. Thoughts of God’s love will cause us to be more creative and will protect us from the torment of oppression and fear.
