Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you.
2 Thessalonians 3:1 (NKJV)
One of the main questions that we need to answer in life is, “For whose glory will you live and work?” When we chase our own glory, we swiftly run down dark and twisted alleys of deception and pain. We find that these alleys are dead ends that do not fulfill us and hurt others. We do these based on our own desires and not on a foundation of prayer and surrender.
God’s Word running swiftly means that its effects run like a mighty river unhindered by any obstacles. Another example would be a herd of horses galloping freely and joyfully on the
plains toward their destination. When God’s Word, as we pray, moves unhindered, it creates freedom, joy and peace for those who embrace it. Part of our personal discipline should be to share the Word of God, helping to produce freedom and love in the lives of others. It is in this way that the Lord is glorified among His people and in the world. Prayer is the engine that makes God’s Word alive and powerful to swiftly change lives.
