Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.Genesis 15:1

God looked on the face of the earth for a faithful man, with a heart dedicated to serving and loving God, who would start a new nation. He chose Abram. God starts early in his relationship with Abram by making two promises to him. One would be enough, but as usual, God is very generous with us. He goes above and beyond what is required to lavishly love those who are faithful to him.

He quickly identifies fear as our main enemy and then promises to counteract it with his overwhelming love and protection. In this, he wants to show Abram his faithfulness and his tenderness. The words, great reward, allows our imaginations to roam on the scope and magnificence of the treasures he has set aside for Abram, and ultimately for us.
